KIRILL GERSTEIN — CHAMBER MUSIC RESIDENCY
GYORGY LIGETI — Trio for violin, horn and piano
JOHANNES BRAHMS — Trio for piano, violin and horn in E flat major, Op. 40
GUSTAV MAHLER — Symphony No. 4 in G major (arrangement for chamber ensemble by Erwin Stein)
The final concert of the Chamber Music Residency is the first part of a portrait dedicated to pianist Kirill Gerstein and hosts a double set: three instrumentalists at the height of their careers playing Brahms and Ligeti trios – connected by the homage that the latter pays to the former –, then nine young talented musicians whom they have supervised, in a subtle chamber version of the Fourth Symphony, thus allowing the Festival to continue its Mahler cycle.
