It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of composer Kaija Saariaho, a central figure among a generation of renowned and internationally influential Finnish composers and performers.
Her last opera, Innocence, which premiered at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in July 2021, was an immense success, first with audiences in Aix and then in all other countries in which it was performed. Kaija Saariaho was also named Composer of the Year in 2022 by the Victoires de la musique classique. The Festival d’Aix invites you to re-experience — through a selection of texts, sound and video clips, and photos — the creation, rehearsals and premiere of this highly acclaimed work.
