The Collectif de 17h25 is made up of five cultural organisations — the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Opéra de Paris, the Opéra de Lyon and the Théâtre de la Monnaie / De Munt — that are deeply committed to examining the sustainability of creation and production in the performing arts. Drawing on lessons learned over many years through co-productions, the members of the collective are now joining forces to develop an original project centred around the standardisation of structural elements of sets, based on the underlying belief that the large-scale distribution of standard structures will be beneficial to the environment without restricting the creative force at the heart of each of these cultural institutions.

Ultimately, the completion of this project and its widespread implementation in the performing arts, cinema, and the museum sector will help lower the carbon footprint of the entire industry by reducing the consumption of resources.

An inaugural Laboratory comprising roughly 30 employees from the five partnering companies met this past October at the Théâtre du Châtelet to establish a joint definition of their work methods. The Laboratory was followed on 10 November by the official launch of the project for the standardisation of opera set structures, on the occasion of the signing of the funding agreement with Caisse des Dépôts as part of the ‘Supporting Green Alternatives in the Cultural and Creative Industries in France 2030’ initiative.
