THE FESTIVAL D’AIX-EN-PROVENCE RECEIVES THE OPER! AWARD 2023 FOR BEST FESTIVAL FOR ITS 2022 EDITION!
The Festival d’Aix-en-Provence is pleased to announce it was awarded the Best Festival Award for its 2022 edition by the Oper! Awards 2023. Pierre Audi, General Director of the Festival, received the award on Monday 27 February during the Gala Awards evening at the Operhaus in Theater Dortmund (Germany).
The jury praised the glorious youth of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and the artistic ambition of its programming: "Corona imposed a hiatus, but the editions of 2021 and 2022 with their wealth of widely diverse new productions and world premieres, sometimes lining up seven novelties in a row, were exceptional. In their quality and originality as much as in the surprising mix of baroque opera with world premieres. And as if that were not enough, Pierre Audi even discovered two new venues.”
Pierre Audi, who attended the ceremony, broadcasted live on operavision.eu said : "It is a great honor for the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence to receive this award which coincides with its 75th anniversary and the beginning of my second term. It is the result of the remarkable work of all the Festival's teams, whether artistic, technical or administrative. In response to the pandemic, we have chosen to take risks, to express the full potential of this great festival and to place a strong emphasis on creation. I am immensely grateful to see this daring rewarded today by this prestigious award.”
The OPER! AWARDS are Germany’s only international opera prize, presented annually during a gala to the best creatives of the international opera scene. The awards are presented across 20 categories by a jury of music journalists.
